Explore More: Ephesians, Week 1

At Sunday's gathering I referenced some sheets called "Explore More" that people were welcome to take home.  These sheets contain ways that we as a church can better reflect on what is communicated on Sundays.  In case you missed Sunday or you forgot to pick-up a sheet, here it is...

May 9-15, 2010; Week 1

KNOW | Personal Study
Set aside 30 minutes and read the letter to the Ephesians.   Doing so will not only bring greater context to parts of the whole letter, but will also help you track where we go as a Church on Sundays.  The Bible is the only letter that I know of where people jump around to different parts... how does that make sense?!

GROW | Option #1
Although a secular analogy can never be a perfect illustration of God's character and plan, it can (if done with accuracy to God's Word) illuminate parts of God's character and plan.  Read Ephesians 1:3-23.  How does the example of a family business illustrate God's and our involvement in the very meaning of life?  (This question will make more sense if you listen to the sermon/drama presentation on Sunday, May 9, 2010).

GROW | Option #2
In Ephesians 1, Paul talks lots about the fact that we were chosen by God and that He predestined us to know Christ.  How do you balance this or right this with other verses such as 2 Peter 3:9 NIV "The Lord .... is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." and Revelation 22:17 NIV  "The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life."?  Discussion like these can be divisive if we allow ourselves to be more important than others.  Approach with humility and discussions like these can build our faith and trust in God.

SOW | Application
Knowing whose we are changes how we see ourselves.  How does knowing that we are Sons and Daughters of God through Jesus change the way we see God, ourselves, and others?  Does this realization change how you live?
