Saturday Mashup

We may have lost, but at least we looked good doing it (took home the best dressed award)!  16 brave people from our Church took the field yesterday morning at 8:30am to compete for the Canada Day Softball Tournament Cup.  We were cheered on by friends and family members.  Although many of us had either never played baseball or hadn't in over 15 years, we managed to hold the 'pro' teams to 6 runs... an inning (tournament max per inning).

Even though we lost our first two games badly, we had a lot of fun doing it.  It was great to see a real cross section of our Church family participating.  We had the most spirit of any of team (many thanks to Tony 'The Mouth' O'Hara who kept the chatter going all day).  There were lots of high fives, laughs, and pulled muscles.   Many people put their body on the line and will be feeling the effects long into next week.

I think we could have been compared to a diesel engine... we were powerful, but needed a little more time to warm up.  By the time we got to the third game, we hit our stride and destroyed the competition 11-4.  Isaac was striking them out, Christian was like a gazelle in the outfield, and Renee hit a foul ball so hard it went way out of the park and through a van window.  I was up at bat a few turns later and hit the same van (although with not enough power to break another window)... the van had been parked there all day and we were the only team to hit it.  And we did it twice.

It was a great day, but both Angela and I were so pooped after we didn't have the energy to take our kids to the fireworks.  Instead we opted for sleeping for 9 hours.  I am sore and moving slow this morning, but I was able to get out and mow our lawn.  We're looking forward to having the Manning's over later for a bonfire.

I'm really looking forward to Church tomorrow.  Following our gathering, we're heading over to Centennial Park for a picnic and bocce.  Bring your own everything.
